Shoen Tominaga (b. 1929) joined the avant-garde art group Bokujin in 1951 at the invitation of Morita. Since then, he has developed his unique practice incorporating not only calligraphy but also collage, stainless steel, and other techniques. This exhibition features his works in ink from the 1970s alongside his recent powerful creations made as he celebrates his 90th year, displayed together with important Bokujin members Yuichi Inoue and Koryu Morita’s calligraphy.
Shingo Mori (b. 1937) has created abstract paintings since the 1950s, characterized by a distinctive worldview and a poetic, literary sensibility. This exhibition shows his works from the 1970s—an important turning point influenced by painter Yaei Asano—with whom he shared mutual influence, as well as his freer and more vigorous recent works, offering a glimpse into their early exchanges.
Kuniaki Yamamura (b. 1942) was deeply influenced by American art in the early 1960s and has consistently produced bright, minimal paintings with continuous patterns since the late 1960s. This exhibition presents his ink drawings from around 1970 alongside new works that he continues to create daily, displayed together with pieces by Jasper Johns, one of the most influential artists on his work at that time.
Hiroyuki Suzuki (b. 1950) moved to New York in 1982 and worked on printmaking with Shusaku Arakawa. After returning to Japan, he produced the drawing series Time Layers over about ten years starting in 1985. This exhibition features that series alongside works by Arakawa, whose influence was profound during its creation.
Takumi Kato (b. 1968), a ceramic artist based in Seto, will present the latest works from his White Bowl series, which was also featured in his solo exhibition last December.
