加藤 巧(1968-)
Ko KATO
Born in 1968 in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture.
Kato, the eldest son of a family that has run a kiln for three generations in Seto, a city famous for its ceramics industry, grew up familiar with clay from an early age. He held his first solo exhibition as a ceramic artist in 2003 at the age of 35 (rail / Nagoya). Since then, he has held several solo exhibitions mainly at galleries in the Tokai region.
Kato studied graphic design at Nagoya Zokei Junior College of Art & Design. While possessing a contemporary sensibility, he shows a strong interest in ancient ceramics and old tools. His delicate and refined use of color and sense of form in everyday vessels and tea utensils are characterized by an avant-garde element, yet they also embody a timeless beauty that connects to traditional aesthetics.
