SHUMOKU GALLERY is pleased to participate in ART OSAKA 2017, marking our second consecutive appearance at the fair.
This year, we will present works by Daigo Omura (b. 1984), a sculptor who graduated from Seian University of Art and Design and is currently based in Kanazawa, and Shota Hanaki (b. 1988), a painter and graduate of Aichi University of the Arts.
Omura creates works that question how ordinary objects can take on new meanings depending on one's perspective or their historical context.
Hanaki, on the other hand, begins with elements of everyday architecture and landscapes, transforming them into paintings or sculptural abstractions through direct visual language.
Both artists share a thoughtful and stylish approach, grounded in traditional artistic values while maintaining a contemporary sensibility.
Their works will be shown alongside those of two significant figures in postwar Japanese art:
Kumi Sugai (1919–1996) and Masakazu Horiuchi (1911–2001), representing the fields of painting and sculpture respectively.
We warmly invite you to visit and enjoy the exhibition.
