This is a group exhibition featuring three artists who participated in the OKASHIN ART PROJECT 2016, held from October to December 2016 at the Okazaki Shinkin Bank Archive.
The exhibition presents a selection of new and previously exhibited works from the project. We warmly invite you to view these compelling pieces.
Shota HANAKI
Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1988, Shota Hanaki completed the Master's Program in Fine Arts (Oil Painting/Printmaking) at Aichi University of the Arts in 2013. Exploring the possibilities of two-dimensional expression, his series titled Dashed Line features visually engaging works using shaped canvases and three-dimensional supports.
Marlon GRIFFITH
Born in Trinidad and Tobago in 1976, Marlon Griffith initially gained recognition as a carnival designer in his home country and is now based in Nagoya. He has exhibited installations and performances internationally. In 2016, he presented a solo exhibition titled SPUR (at SHUMOKU GALLERY), featuring monotypes. In this exhibition, he presents a video work titled Great Expectation, which uses sugar and colonialism as its central themes.
Satoko MATSUBARA
Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1979, Satoko Matsubara completed her MFA in Nihonga (Japanese painting) at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2005 and has since been actively exhibiting mainly in Aichi. Her installation Rinne no Tabi (Journey of Reincarnation) incorporates both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works using traditional Japanese painting materials, as well as paintings on old folding screens and sliding doors, evoking a mystical and immersive atmosphere.
